Get Ready for Spring Showers!

By April 17, 2018January 11th, 2023No Comments

Though spring weather is known to be finicky and difficult, it’s a signal that winter is finally coming to a close. Those snow storms, icy roads, and low temperatures are fading away and the promise of warmth is lurking. Take this as an opportunity to prep your insurance for spring too! Making sure that your insurance policies are spring ready is a quick and easy process that could help protect you in these coming months.

Auto

Rain is a notorious spring characteristic. There is no escaping the rain, so it’s best to prepare for when it does come! These driving tips will help keep you safe on the roads:

  • Drive slowly – in all inclement weather, slowing down is one of the easiest ways to prevent an accident. If the rain impairs your vision, reduce your speed.
  • Avoid braking hard – slamming the bakes could make you accidentally hydroplane. Keeping a slow speed and maintaining distance between you and the car ahead of you will help prevent emergency braking.
  • Watch out for potholes – in rainy weather, potholes can be hard to see. However, try your best to avoid hitting them at high speeds. They can cause a lot of damage.
  • Update your auto insurance – check up on your auto insurance coverage to make sure that you are well protected this spring! Talk to your agent about the coverage you have and what will work best for you.

Home

Your home can sustain a lot of damage from a rainstorm if you are not adequately prepared. These are some ways to protect your home:

  • Clean your gutters – prior to a big storm, clear your gutters. When snow melts or rain falls, your gutters guide the water away from your home. They help prevent water from seeping into unwanted places.
  • Address any roof issues or damage – after a tough winter, your roof may not be 100%. Access any damage and get it repaired before it becomes a bigger issue.
  • Take a home inventory – Especially with the threat of flooding, having a home inventory can be crucial to evaluating the value of your possessions
  • Update your home insurance – it’s never a bad idea to talk to your insurance agent to make sure that your home is well protected!

Insurance

This is a good chance for you to update your insurance policies. Since you are preparing for spring, make sure that you have the coverage you need to help keep you and your family protected this spring

  • Get a flood insurance policy – as much as you try to stop it, sometimes flooding does occur. Unfortunately, your home insurance policy does not cover flood damage. To protect your home and belongings, you will need a separate flood insurance policy. Flood insurance takes 30 days to go into effect after you purchase so it’s crucial to get coverage before a big storm is on its way!
  • Ask about umbrella insurance – this type of coverage can be handy. In the event an incident occurs, and your coverage limits are not enough, umbrella insurance can act as additional coverage. Or, if your policy doesn’t cover the type of incident, umbrella insurance may come in handy as well.
  • Address any other areas you may be vulnerable – If there have been any changes in your life recently, let your insurance agent know. He or she can help adjust your coverage to work best with your life and your needs, whatever they may be.

Don’t let the spring showers put a damper on your life. Taking some small steps can prevent disaster this spring season.
