Stay on the trail

Stay on the trail while heading to the camp site. When it comes to ATV camping, journey can be more fun than the destination, but it is important to be safe! Responsible riding is key to a fun ride.

Leave no trace

The fun of camping in the great outdoors is to feel like you’re in your own world. Don’t make the next campers feel like someone was just there, and especially don’t leave trash or other items behind for them to clean up. Not only does it harm the environment, it is illegal in most areas.

Privacy

Keep privacy in mind when you’re setting up your campsite. What happens if you get to your site and there is already a group there? Be prepared by choosing other sites on the route so that you have a back-up. If you do choose to stay, give them their space. In some cases, you may need to make a reservation ahead of time.

Check the Space

Make sure to have the proper tent spacing for a good night’s sleep. The wilderness has its own sound effects, avoid those of your fellow campers by giving yourself room.

Campfires

Campfires are a camping essential, but can be dangerous. Try to use an existing fire pit or build your own if there isn’t one. Use brush and branches that have already fallen from trees instead of cutting the trees down. When you put out the fire, make sure it’s fully out.

Respect the wildlife

Do not disrupt the wildlife while on your ATV camping trip. Avoid feeding them. Stay away from animals and keep your food and other belongings out of their reach.
